NSW Ministry for the Arts

The NSW Ministry for the Arts advises the State Government on all aspects of the arts and cultural activity in NSW and provides about $200 million annual support to the arts. $160 million each year goes to the State's cultural institutions, including the Art Gallery of NSW, Australian Museum and the Sydney Opera House. In 2000-2001, a cultural grants program of $24.9 million supported a wide range of organisations and artists across all artforms. An International Program was established in 1998 to support international tour development.

NSW is the home of some of Australia's most successful performing arts companies, many of which are developing significant international interest.Recent highlights include performances of Company B Belvoir (Cloudstreet) and Bangarra Dance Theatre (Corroboree) at the Next Wave Down Under Festival presented by Brooklyn Academy of Music in New York, and successful international tours of Sydney Theatre Company, Sydney Dance Company, Erth, William Yang, Legs on the Wall, The Flying Fruit Fly Circus, Theatre of Image, the Australian Chamber Orchestra, the Brandenburg Orchestra and the Song Company.
