"To make a long story short, smaller, poorer cheaper gives a new dimension to the old quote 'less is more'. In that case, it's even better. Essential."
Le Midi Libre, France, 2007

"Aussies, annoyingly, are often the best at everything, and it would be hard to find artists who are fitter, stronger, or indeed, more crazily daring than these."
The Stage, London, 2007

acrobat's smaller poorer cheaper world premiered at the Arts House Meat Market and recently completed a seventh month tour of Europe traveling through the United Kingdom, France, Belgium, Netherlands, Denmark, Switzerland and Germany. More intimate in presentation and style than previous works, smaller poorer cheaper goes deeper into the personal world of acrobat. Pure, raw acrobatics are balanced with more contemplative moments, opening a window into the special, alternative lives of performers Simon Yates, Jo Lancaster and Mozes, with original sound score by Tim Barrass.

smaller poorer cheaper is a vibrant manifesto which uses circus techniques with real creativity, beauty, virtuosity and generosity. The three solos acts take place in a decor reduced to its simplest expression: a small curtain at the back, a carpet, a few little lights and the rig. And for the costumes ... huh, what costumes?

acrobat
acrobat is an ensemble of highly skilled physical performers, unique in their approach to theatre making. The ensemble has a deep commitment to training and presenting their work at the highest possible skill level, without compromise. Each individual act is performed with precision within a deconstructed framework consisting of unrefined lights, sound and costuming. acrobat is quintessentially Australian and responds in its own way to our history of physical theatre and wry sense of humour. The company has been at the forefront of new forms of circus based on their own practice and Russian training techniques.
