Written by Lally Katz in collaboration with Stuck Pigs Squealing, The Eisteddfod is a funny, irreverent, dark and ultimately heartbreaking play which exploits every aspect of theatrical language to its utmost. The play tells the story of siblings Abalone and Gerture, who, orphaned when teenagers, live agoraphobic lives together in a tiny room. Here they play out their longings and fantasies, building a complex world of desire and loss. Abalone's dream is to win the annual Eisteddfod drama competition, while Gerture is spending longer and longer teaching in the imaginary world of "the classroom" and navigating the complex emotional ground of her "relationship" with Ian, who Abalone embodies for her. The entire show takes place on a tiny stage, two metres square, and is supported by a beautiful, highly detailed sound and lighting design.

The Eisteddfod received six green room nominations in 2004, receiving the award for Best Independent Production. It has since toured to PS122, Ontological-Hysteric Theatre in New York, B Sharp in Sydney and the Malthouse in Melbourne.
