Baby, where are the fine things you promised me? is a street installation performance whereby a 1:8 scale model of a Victorian Cottage placed on a relative quarter acre block of artificial grass sits on an urban sidewalk. Inside the house but hidden from immediate view is a performer playing a miniature piano, making cups of tea for his guests and decorating the inside walls with notes and photos left by passers by.

Baby, where are the fine things you promised me? was created in February 2006 as a commission between Auckland's Living Room Street Art Programme and Wellington's Fringe Festival. The project has quickly gathered momentum with invitations to festivals throughout New Zealand (Christchurch, Nelson, Tauranga, Palmerston North, Invercagill and Wanaka) and Australia (Perth Awesome Arts Festival and interest from the 10 Days On The Island Festival for 2009). The project has instant appeal for a large cross section of the public and provides an ideal interface between an arts festival environment and the general public.

Stephen Bain
Stephen Bain is Producer/Director for independent theatre company Winning Productions.

Stephen trained in both Architecture (Victoria University) and Acting (Toi Whakaari) and has been heavily involved in professional theatre since 1990. He has performed for stage and screen throughout NZ and directed twenty plays. He was co-director of French-NZ physical theatre company Under Lili's Balcony Theatre Company from 1996-2002 producing 6 new plays. He has designed numerous theatre sets and specializes in integration of video projection in performance, he had also made short films and videos. Stephen in also a teacher in drama schools and industry training organizations, he had taught in acting, directing and theatre design. He is currently based in Auckland.

Winning Productions was formed in 2004, it has successfully produced four works, three of which have toured nationally. The company has several performance seasons scheduled for 2008 in Auckland and Wellington.
