A moving and poetic expose of one of classical music's true mavericks - Antonio Vivaldi - The Angel and the Red Priest is a rich fusion of theatre and music by one of Adelaide's most exciting independent companies.

Venice, 1705. Vivaldi - the Red Priest - toils away within the walls of the Ospedale della Pieta, an orphanage for girls. On the verge of greatness, the budding composer needs one final achievement to prove his virtuosity and release him from the priesthood once and for all. He finds it in an unfortunate girl blessed with the voice of an angel and composes a mass for her. But can Agata carry the growing aspirations of Vivaldi and the orphanage?

The Angel and the Red Priest is the latest work from award-winning playwright Sean Riley and features the glorious instrumental and vocal music by Antonio Vivaldi performed by a soprano and quintet of baroque musicians.
