The Age I'm In is a revealing portrait of Australia today, woven together and brought to life by Force Majeure's distinctive dance-theatre language. A random and diverse selection of Australians aged between 8 and 80 offer startling personal responses to a range of emotive issues, creating an intimate snapshot that punctures the public façade with unguarded honesty. The Age I'm In highlights how predictable and surprising our opinions and experiences really are.

Fusing state of the art audio visual technology and the physical actions of 10 performers, Force Majeure's new dance-theatre performance is a reflection of our contradictory shared humanity.

An irresistible compulsion

Force Majeure is a Sydney based dance-theatre company led by Kate Champion as artistic director with Geoff Cobham (designer) and Roz Hervey (performer) as artistic associates. Force Majeure was formed in 2002 and is based around a collective of artists from varying disciplines who are committed to creating stimulating movement-based theatre. Company artists include actors, dancers, designers, writers, visual artists, composers and filmmakers. Since 2002, the company has created two major works, two collaborative works, a short film series and has received 4 major national awards. They premiered in Europe at the prestigious Lyon Biennele de la Danse in 2006 and will present this new work, The Age I'm In, at Sydney Festival and Adelaide International Festival in 2008.

Force Majeure makes work that communicates clearly and inventively on contemporary life, breaking down boundaries between art forms using highly skilled physicality as the creative conduit and philosophical meeting point. Whether its work is defined as dance, theatre or performance is secondary to its relevance and impact.
