In the seven years since ADT's Artistic Director, Garry Stewart premiered his celebrated deconstruction of Swan Lake - Birdbrain - he has become Australia's most highly regarded contemporary choreographer. For the 2008 Adelaide Bank Festival of Arts, Stewart and ADT present 'G', a non-linear re-composition of Giselle.

Dislocating and transcending Giselle's romantic narrative, 'G' converts the dancers from characters in to visceral explorations of hysteria, sex, death, loss and metamorphosis.

Fusing the technical prowess and classical technique of classical ballet with his explosive and enthralling choreography for 'G', Stewart has further extended the intensely physical dance for which he and Australian Dance Theatre have become internationally renowned and revered.

Australian Dance Theatre
First formed in Adelaide in 1965, Australian Dance Theatre (ADT) is the nation's pre-eminent contemporary dance company. It has since produced consistently great repertoire in dance and dance theatre and is currently regarded as one of the top dance companies in the world.

Under the artistic direction of Garry Stewart since 1999, the Company has taken a radically distinct and bold trajectory. ADT Dancers train in a number of specific physical disciplines; as well as contemporary dance techniques and classical ballet, they are also coached intensively in break dance, martial arts, gymnastics and contact improvisation. The result is a fusion of forms which constitutes a unique choreographic palette for which there is no equivalent in Australia. Stewart's work is characterised by his 'no-compromise' attitude. It's fast, aggressive, technically demanding, fraught with risk and charged with an urgency that is riveting to watch. It is extraordinary dance. Critically acclaimed and multi award winning, ADT performances are thrilling audiences around the globe.

In addition to G, ADT's mainstage productions with Garry Stewart include the much loved and extensively performed Birdbrain; The Age of Unbeauty; Nothing; Held with renowned New York dance photographer, Lois Greenfield and Devolution with French Canadian robotics and lighting expert, Louis Philippe Demers. The latter two productions have been invited to perform at the prestigious Theatre de la Ville, Paris - widely regarded as the world's best dance venue. ADT is the only Australian company to receive this honour.
